I got a bunch of compliments on my sharpening of my gifs, so I thought I’d share my settings!

I’m gonna use this gif to demonstrate

image

1. make your gif as you usually do, then click on this button here saying “convert to video timeline”

image

2. now select all your layers, including your adjustments layers (if you have text on your gif, do not select the text layer)

image

3. You should now have only one layer

image

4. Now go to filter>sharpen>smart sharpen

image

and use those settings

image

click on the settings button (in the red square on the picture) and make sure both use legacy and more accurate are checked

5. now duplicate your layer

image

6. and on your new layer, go to filter>blur>gaussian blur

image

use those settings

image

7. finally, on the gaussian blur layer, lower the opacity between  40%-60%, to your liking

image

8. now just save your gif and here you go!

Basic (but thorough) Colouring Tutorial

osbrien:

So since I’ve gotten a few requests for a colouring tutorial, here I am, bearing gifts. I’m going to show you guys how I colour two types of scenes: outdoor (daylight) and dark, but they’re not that different at all. This is my first proper, intense tutorial so bear with me and I’ll try to make it as simple as possible.

  • bright scenes:

  • dark scenes:

You will need:

  • Photoshop CS5/CS6 (download)
  • Basic knowledge of gif making (import video/screencaps, sharpening, cropping)
  • 720/1080p video.
  • Patience and willingness to screw up a few (hundred) times.
  • More patience because this is longer than I first thought.

This tutorial includes psds as well :)

I make my gifs from DVDs and 720p files (I use kickassto ~download BitTorrent here~ *make sure to download the 720p WEB DL torrents for highest quality and logo free*) and I use two different programs to cap, for DVDs I use VLC Media Player (download here) and for 720p files I use KMplayer (download here).
